What’s the Process of Asphalt Resurfacing?
Commercial asphalt resurfacing is a straightforward, cost-effective way to restore pavement that still has a solid foundation. Instead of removing and replacing the entire structure, a 1.5 to 2 inch thick layer of asphalt is applied over the existing base.
Our commercial paving contractors start the process with a thorough inspection. The surface is evaluated for structural integrity, including cracks, potholes, and drainage issues. Any problem areas are identified to ensure the base can properly support a new layer. The surface is then cleaned to remove dirt, debris, and vegetation that could affect bonding.
Next comes asphalt milling. The top, damaged layer of asphalt is removed to create a smooth, even base and to maintain proper elevation around curbs, drains, and entrances. After milling, any necessary surface repairs are completed to address weak spots.
A tack coat, which is a liquid asphalt adhesive, is then applied. This step is important because it helps the new asphalt bond securely to the existing surface. Once the tack coat is in place, hot mix asphalt is laid down evenly across the area.
Heavy rollers compact the new layer to ensure a dense, durable finish. After asphalt paving is complete, a final inspection is performed. In many cases, sealcoating is applied afterward to protect the surface and extend its lifespan.
Are There Benefits to Choosing Asphalt Resurfacing?
